Corals are extremely slow growing, but are an important part of the fossil record. Corals have existed for over 500 million years, and are little changed today from their original form.

Today corals only inhabit about 1% of the ocean, but over 25% of marine species live amongst the coral.

Their importance cannot be underestimated
