Agaricrinus Sea Lilly
Product description
A very pretty and highly detailed Agaricrinus splendens crinoid from Crawfordsville, Indiana, USA. This creature existed 340 million years ago.
The seafloor conditions at that time were extremely advantageous to the proliferation of crinoids, with a shallow sea and an influx of silt from a nearby river delta.
Crinoids are commonly called "Sea Lillies" because of there similarity to plants. However, they were animals and sifted plankton from the sea.
Crinoids have graced the oceans for the last 500m years.
This is a beautiful crinoid, in wonderful condition, with detailed head and stem.
The piece is framed and a fantastic natural artwork.
