Arietites Ammonite
Product description
Enormous, free standing Arietites bucklandi Ammonite, from France. These are rare ammonites, and even more so in this condition. They are from the Jurassic, 199m to 145m years ago, and this specimen is preserved perfectly, with a beautiful black lustre. It stands on a light grey matrix base in which it was discovered. The medial keel ridge is an anatomical feature of this species of ammonite.
These ammonites were named after the Reverend William Buckland, who was Canon of Christchurch during the second half of the nineteenth century, and was reader in Geology at Oxford. He was a renowned fossil hunter of his time.
The creature lived in the last large chamber, the others being used for buoyancy in its maritime environment.
This is an outstanding fossil ammonite, and the best we have ever been able to offer.
As a free standing natural sculpture little comes close. It is simply stunning. Unfortunately the pictures don't do it justice.
Finally, for the financially minded, it is also a wonderful investment piece.
