COMPLETE MESOSAURUS REPTILE
A Mesosaur brasiliensis, dating from the Early Permian, 280 million years old, discovered in the Santana Formation of Brazil.
Mesosaurus, meaning "middle lizard", was one of the first marine reptiles, returning to the water after the early tetrapods came to land in the late Devonian Period.
It had a long skull, an even longer tail, and a streamlined body.
They could grow up to 1 metre in length.
Mesosaurs preyed upon acquatic creatures, such as crustaceans.
Complete fossils of this amazing reptile are becoming harder to obtain, and this is an excellent example.
There has been repair to the matrix, but not to the fossil itself.
A great addition to a collection, or a decorative talking point.
