Captorhinus reptile
Product description
A large and beautiful Captorhinus aguti reptile from the Permian Period, 299m to 270m years old. This creature was discovered in the Arroyo Formation, Lawton, Oklahoma, USA.
Captorhinus was one of the first reptiles to appear in the fossil record, and is known as a "stem" reptile, the forerunner of the dinosaurs, modern reptiles, mammals, and birds.
They were generally small, with a maximum size of 40cms.
It is thought that they probably ate insects, snails, and other small reptiles.
This is an incredibly large and well preserved specimen. There is some restoration of the ribs.
These creatures are found as disarticulated skeletons, and of necessity have to be re-assenbled.
It is currently unmounted, with legs and feet to be attached once purchased.
We can mount the Captorhinus either flat, or on a piece of stone, dependant upon the choice of the customer.
These creatures are rare, so do not miss the opportunity to own such a fantastic and important reptile.
