Captorhinus aguti reptile
Product description
This fantastically preserved reptile is a Captorhinus aguti, a reptile from the Permian, 290m to 245m years old. It was discovered in the Arroyo Formation, Cherokee County, Oklahoma, USA.
This is a very special creature, and is classed as a "stem reptile". They are thought to be ancestral to Dinosaurs, and all modern day reptiles, mammals, & birds.
They were small, with a maximum size of around 40 cms, and had slender limbs.
It is thought their diet consisted of insects, snails, and other small reptiles
This fossil is rare and unusual. There has been some restoration to the ribs.
These creatures are found as disarticulated skeletons, and of necessity have to be re-assembled.
We have not yet attached the legs and feet, as we will mount the piece as the customer requests, either flat or on a piece of rock.
An incredible piece.
