Clam Shell
Product description
A very good Bi-valve Clam, Mercenaria campechiensis, from the Cretaceous, 100 million years old. It was discovered in the Caloosahatchee Formation, Florida, USA.
Pelecypods, meaning "hatchet foot", are bi-valve molluscs, mainly marine, although some could be found in fresh water. Oysters, mussels, and scallops are todays descendants.
This is a perfect example with all the matrix removed from the shell interior.
A very collectable piece.
