Viperfish
Crayfish and Viperfish
Product description
A remarkable plate with two different creatures, a Crayfish, Pseudastacus, and a Viperfish, Europholis, from the Upper Cretaceous, 100 million years ago. They were discovered in Hadjoula, Byblos, Lebanon, where many well preserved fish fossils are found.
The Pseudastacus is a representative of the Astacidea, and first appeared in Europe during the Early Cretaceous. It is very unusual to see such good preservation of the soft body parts.
The Europholis is a predator VIperfish, which had a wide gape and needle sharp teeth.
A double plate showing two very different creatures is rare and very collectable.
