Triceratops Scapula

Product description

An adult Triceratops horridus Dinosaur scapula, discovered at Hells Creek, South Dakota, USA. Dinosaur bones are extremely rare, and to discover a complete scapula even more so. Hells Creek is famous for dinosaur bones, including the fearsome Tyranosaurus Rex. The creatures existed in the late Cretaceous, 89 to 65 million years ago, and survived until the mass extinction for 20 m years.
Triceratops was one of a group called the horned ceratopians, and had large parrot-like beaks at the front of their mouths and powerful jaws, enabling them to grind up even the toughest vegetation. It is known from fossil evidence that they travelled in herds.
They weighed in at a hefty 4 to 6 tons, so were no lightweights.
When found the scapula was fragmented, so it has had to be put back together to recreate its original shape, and this is reflected in the price.
This is an original fossil, and very rare.
