Diplomystus Fish

Product description

A large museum quality Diplomystus dentatus fossil fish from the Green River Formation, Wyoming, USA. It dates from the Eocene, 50 million years ago.
The body definition on this fish is amazing, and the teeth are spectacular.
It is a distant relative of the herring, and was a surface feeder, as can be seen from the upturned mouth.
It was a predator of smaller fish, such as Knightia, and during the Eocene Period the Green River Formation was the bed of a sub tropical sea.

Green River fish of this quality are very difficult to obtain. We seldom use the term museum quality, but this piece is just that.
It would make a wonderful framed artwork, or could be incorporated into a piece of furniture as a table top.
The matrix has been polished to a high lustre to enhance the fossil within.
We can meet your requirements regarding display.
This is one fish you should not let get away.
