Priscacara meaning 'primitive head'was shaped rather like a sunfish and had sturdy dorsal fins, probably to prevent it from being swallowed from behind by predators. The preservation on this plate is superb with evidence of scales and the dark bodies of the fish are a wonderful counterpoint to the light matrix. During the Eocene the region was sub tropical to temperate. It is very rare to find a plate such as this with four Priscacara together.
