Forest Fire Wood
Crumbly, but still with the smell of fire

Forest Fire Wood

Product description

A very unusual piece of wood from a forest fire that raged across Hell Creek in South Dakota, some 65 million years ago.
It is Paleocene from the upper part of the Hell Creek Formation, 65.5m to 55.8m years old, just after the K-T extinction.
The buttes in Hell Creek are covered in this wood, which is extremely fragile and crumbly, but still smells of that long ago fire when rubbed between the fingers.
This is an amazing record of a prehistoric fire.
An exceptional one off piece from the time of the extinction of the Dinosaurs.
Size:    20cms x 13cms
