Product description
Nicely framed mass mortality plate of eight Knightia oceana fossil fish, from the Green River Formation, Wyoming, USA. They come from the Eocene, 50 million years ago, when the Green River area was a sub tropical sea.
Knightia was a slender fish and at the bottom of the food chain, being eaten by all the other predatory fish.
They were a schooling fish, and this is why they are found together on one fossil plate.
Knightia is the state fossil of Wyoming.
This is a really nice framed art work, and unusual in having so many fish present on the one plate.
