Fish mortality plate with Palm Frond
Product description
Rare, Fish mortality plate with Palm Frond from the Green River Formation, Wyoming, USA. These highly unusual pieces of natural art are from the Eocene, 50 million years ago, when the area was a sub tropical sea.
The fish are Knightia, and were bottom of the food chain in the environment in which they lived. They were schooling fish and fed mainly on astrocods, algal forms, and diatoms.
This piece is extremely rare because of the inclusion of the Palm Frond. Larger pieces fetch upwards of £20,000.
We would suggest a simple frame for the piece in a colour to suit the client, and would undertake this work ourselves.
Finally, fossils are a great investment opportunity, and this is no exception.
