A stunning multi species crinoid plate from Crawfordsville, Indiana, USA. They are from the Lower Mississippian, Osagen Stage, 345 million years old.
Although resembling plants they are members of the phylum Echinodermata, and filtered plankton from the oceans.
They anchored themselves with the stem, and used their crowns to collect their nutrients.
 
This plate is of incredible quality with many different species represented.
