Mangrove Lobster
Product description
This is a specimen of a mangrove lobster, Thalassina anomala, which comes from a unique locality at Gunn Point, Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia.
It dates from the Holocene, 10,000 years ago, and can still to be found today in the same locality.
Probably buried in mud during a cyclone, the exoskeleton has been replaced by calcium carbonate, magnesium, strontium, and iron.
Most are found enclosed in a hard calculite formed by the accretion of mud and carbonates.
This is an interesting and unusual collectible example of this lobster.
