Product description
A museum quality Phareodus fossil fish from the Green River Formation, Fossil Lake, Kemmerer, Wyoming, USA. Green River is famous for its preservation of fish, but few are as good as this perfect example. It dates from the Eocene, 50 million years ago.
The genus, Phareodus is uncommon in the Green River, and can be readily distinguished by its long pectoral fin.
The fish was a hunter of other fish species, and has many sharp pointed teeth.
During the Eocene this area was sub tropical to temperate, and more than sixty vertebrate taxa have been discovered, including crocodiles, snakes, bats, and birds.
The preservation of this uncommon fossil is magnificent.
