Pliosaur Vertebra 7

Product description

A large Pliosaur brachyspondylus vertebra, dating from the Jurassic Period, 150 million years old. It was discovered in the Kimmerage Clay, River Thames Gravels, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, England.
Pliosaurs lived during the Jurassic and Cretaceous Periods, along with their close relatives, the Plesiosaurs. Plesiosaurs are known for their long slender necks and smallish heads, whereas Pliosaurs had short necks and much larger heads & jaws.
They ranged in size from 4 to 15 metres (13 to 50 feet) in length.
Their prey included Ichthyosaurs, large fish, and, their close relatives, Plesiosaurs.
This is an exceptional vertebra of this amazing creature, from a well known UK location.
A fantastic addition to a collection, as brachyspondylus tends to be much rarer than some of the other Pliosaurs.
Size:    7 cms diameter
