Trilobite Plate 2

Product description

This is an outstanding, museum quality, muli-trilobite plate, discovered in the Fezouata Formation, Zagora, Morocco.

The group of trilobites date from the Ordovician Period, 485m to 443m years old.

Trilobites ("three-lobes") are extinct arthropods that form the class Trilobita. They appeared in the Middle Cambrian epoch and flourished throughout the lower Paleozoic era before beginning a drawn-out decline to extinction when, during the Late Devonian extinction, all trilobite orders, with the sole exception of Proetida, died out.
The last of the trilobites disappeared in the mass extinction at the end of the Permian about 250 million years ago

This plate is exceptional for the quality and number of trilobites displayed.

In total there are thirty one complete trilobites on this incredible plate

The largest trilobite is a Megistaspis hammondi, and is extremely unusual in that it has an elongated tail spine. These are extraordinarily rare in this condition. The eyes are set very close to the glabella. They grew to a large size and are thought to have been predatory.
The trilobite is 30cms long, and beautifully preserved.

In addition, the plate features the following trilobites;

Lehua chorbachol
Colphacoryphe hammondi
Synphisurus sp
Agerina sp

This is an outstanding piece, and terrific for display in the home or office.
