Product description
Age: Eocene (50m. years ago)
Fossil site: Green river formation, Fossil lake, Wyoming, USA.
Description: These fossils come from the world famous Laggerstatten, Green river.
The site produces a large extent of the soft tissue preservation as evidenced in these fish.
The larger fish is the Mioplosus, a voracious predator thought to be a solitary hunter. It is probably related to the modern day pike.
The smaller fish is the Knightia, (state fossil of Wyoming) and was at the bottom of the food chain. It was a schooling fish that can often be found in mass mortality plates.
During the Eocene the region was sub tropical to temperate.
A great double plate featuring hunter and prey of these two 50m yrs old fossil fish.
Fantastic for display in the home, and a great talking point for family and friends.
