Trilobite natural sculpture, 250m years old
Good view of the two different species
Another cephalon (head) on the reverse
Trilobites Odontochile rugosa / Prototops
Product description
This is a really interesting piece with two different species of Trilobite. The largest is the Prototops, and there is also a pygidium (head) of this creature in the same matrix. The smaller trilobite is Odontochile rugosa. They were sea dwellers, and are unique that the lenses of their eyes were formed from calcite. Trilobites died out completely in the mass extinction at the end of the Permian, some 250 million years ago.
