Product description
A super quality Mecochirus longimanatus Lobster. discovered in the Solnhofen Limestone, Eichstatt, Germany.
It dates from the Upper Jurassic Pariod, 154 to 144 million years old, and is on the original matrix.
Some of the most beautiful preservation is found in the Solnhofen limestone deposits in Germany.
This specimen displays the long front legs from which it derives its name, and are typical for this species.
They are thought to have used their legs to pull themselves out of the sand on the Ocean floor, and pull themselves along.
The Solnhofen fossils are white when discovered so have been tinted for display purposes.
On the front and rear of the plate can be seen the dark tree-like Dendrite Mineral inclusions often seen in this locality, which also give provenance to the authenticity of the fossil.
