Fantastic colour contrast of fossil to matrix
Superb preservation of the fossil
Fish plate Priscacara liops
Product description
Age: Eocene (50m yrs old)
Description: This is a large and extremely well preserved specimen. Priscacara meaning `primitive head' was shaped rather like a sunfish and had sturdy dorsal fins, probably to protect it from being swallowed from behind by predators. The preservation particularly on the dorsal fin of this piece is superb.
During the Eocene the region was sub tropical to temperate.
This is one of the rarer fish from the Green River Formation, and has wonderful preservation.
Great for display in the home or office.
